Celebrating Chinese New Year in Tasmania

03/03/2015

We have been wondering if Tasmania’s famous wool industry has anything to do with the huge increase in Chinese visitors over the Chinese New Year period, after all, it is the year of the sheep! So many wonderful Chinese visitors have come to enjoy our complimentary product tastings, group lunches, Devonshire Teas and garden tours this summer but particularly as something to enjoy over Chinese New Year in Tasmania.

We’re proud to say that the opportunity to sit in a beautiful setting just outside Evandale and enjoy Tasmanian produce, including Tassie’s finest range of sauces, jams, chutneys, mustards and relishes has become a feature of a Tasmanian holiday for so many folks.

One of the highlights to visitors continues to be our relatively new Potager Garden (formal working vegetable garden). To see where the salads for lunch came from is so special to our visitors. The tomatoes really do steal the show when guests realise how a tomato should taste!

The garden is as popular as always, especially at this time of year when we give our visitors a taste of fresh Nashi Pears and Tasmanian apples, straight from the trees.

Perhaps in the year of the sheep, having sheep grazing outside the garden fence also adds a new dimension for Chinese visitors to the Tasmanian Gourmet Sauce Company!
